Tarot cards for pregnancy and motherhood – The complete list

If motherhood is in your wishes, here are the best tarot cards for pregnancy in the tarot spread.

Taking the step into parenting is one of, if not, the most significant leap in a human’s life. It changes everything. It rocks your world like nothing else. Being a massive step as it is, it also makes it one of the most popular subjects in tarot card readings. All seekers looking forward to seeing kids in their lives hope to see the most promising parenthood cards in their tarot spreads.

The Empress is the mother archetype of the tarot deck. She represents the creation of life, abundance, nurturing, stability, creativity, and often, pregnancy. She is even depicted in some tarot decks being pregnant. Therefore it is often considered the strongest indicator of motherhood in tarot cards.

Take a word of notice before we go to the post itself: Tarot cards in any health-related matters should only be used for entertainment purposes. They are not replacements for pregnancy tests or doctors’ opinions. If you want and need real help, you should consult a healthcare professional.

Now, let’s get to it and take a closer look at the best tarot cards for motherhood.

What symbols indicate pregnancy in tarot cards?

Before we get into my list of best tarot cards for pregnancy, let’s look at some of the symbols on the cards that could be indicators for a child coming to this world.

There are differences in different tarot decks, so you can use these signs in any given time to give you clues for your interpretations. Most tarot cards don’t directly point to pregnancy. Still, many have positive indicators, especially if the surrounding cards are favorable, and the reading is dealing with pregnancy-related questions and issues.

So next time when you do a tarot reading, look for these clues.

  • Motherly figures: These are positive signs for pregnancy-related questions since cards with maternal figures always pack nurturing energy.
  • Water symbolics: Water represents life, and it is associated with birth and fertility.
  • Cards with numerology related to 1 and 10: Aces and tens represent new beginnings, creation, and completion.
  • Cards that depict children on the imaginary: These cards symbolize innocence, freedom, and potentiality and are always indicators of children being present in our lives in some form.

Best Tarot Cards indicating pregnancy

This list contains eight tarot cards that send strong signals for pregnancy and motherhood. On the

The Empress

The Empress is the archetype of all mothers and, therefore, the most prominent card for motherhood. She represents the creation of life, abundance, nurturing, stability, creativity, and often, pregnancy.

In addition to being the ultimate mother figure, the card’s symbols that increase maternal influence are the grainfields in the background, the wand she holds, and the number three. Her throne being in front of the grainfield, represents her domination over growing things. And the scepter or a wand in her hand represents her power over life. Number three in numerology represents the creation of something.

Because of the strong maternal influence, she is depicted in some tarot decks being pregnant. She is beaming with growth and fertility, making it the most desirable card to receive for all those looking forward to being a mother. If she is in your tarot spread and a baby is in your desires, you are in luck.

The High Priestess

She is another strong female figure of the tarot deck, representing creativity and fertility, among other things. It is a sensual card, and it combines intuition with common sense. It calls us to trust inner intuition and go with our gut feeling. Also, it reminds you to embrace your feminine features and cherish the nurturing side of you.

So in a tarot reading, it could mean that your body is sending you messages that you should trust. Listen to your body. It could be telling that now is the best time to get your groove on in the bedroom to make that baby dream a reality.

The Sun

The Sun is the ultimate card of joy and happiness. It is depicted on the card by a smiling naked child riding on a white horse. A child, especially an infant, on the card imagery is always a signal that children are on the horizon. And as it is an infant on the horse, this card gives powerful vibes of the celebration of life and new positive things coming your way.

In addition to this, if you look at numerology, the Sun is the 19th card of the major arcana. It takes the forms of both 1+9=10’s and 1+0 = 1’s. It is a unique card in the tarot deck as it relates to both of them. These numbers both represent the beginnings of a new cycle and the creation of something new.

Therefore the Sun represents an excellent start for parenthood and is a splendid omen to receive in a tarot reading for both men and women who desire to become parents.

The Magician

Even though this card doesn’t have much maternal feel in the imagery, it is an excellent omen for pregnancy. The Magician is the master of manifestation. He packs the powers and energies to make our dreams come true. Suppose, if you have been dreaming of becoming a mother, the Magician brings an excellent sign to act on those desires.

The Magician is also the number one card of the major arcana. Being one, it represents new beginnings and creating something new. If the reading topic or questions revolve around relationship and pregnancy issues, this card packs many positive elements towards manifesting those desires. So if he shows up in your next reading, interpret the call of the Magician to manifest your dreams into reality.

The Ace of Cups

The Ace of Cups is a card of love, compassion, and creativity. The suit of Cups corresponds to the classical element of water, a symbol of purity, all fluidity, and fertility. It is an emblem of birth and regeneration.

The first card of the suit always represents the suit’s themes at their best, and it takes on the suit’s attributes fresh. Therefore ace of cups is the ultimate ace to receive when it comes to questions about pregnancy.

Three Of Cups

If there is a baby shower card in the Tarot, you have found it! It is a card of celebration and reunions. On the card imagery, three women dance and celebrate around the three cups – the suit that associates with water and represents emotions and connections.

The three of Cups follow the romantic union of the two of cups. In a way, the three manifests the partnership that started on the previous card into something concrete.

Especially if the tarot reading is about love, the three of cups point to a significant event in a relationship, and it could also be the birth of a child.

Six of Cups

The six of cups represents sharing, kindness, appreciation, and co-operation, among other things.

The card features an image of two children on the foreground of the card. The older child is handing a cup to the smaller one. Perhaps it is an older sibling looking after its younger sister.

The biggest clue for pregnancy is having the cute children present on the card imagery. It doesn’t directly indicate pregnancy, but their presence is once again a signifier of new beginnings and that children will somehow be present in your life.

When looking at the numerology of this card, there are excellent omens for getting pregnant. Sixes are about joining opposites together to form a unified entity. To me, at least, pregnancy is the ultimate manifestation of this.

Ten of Cups

The 10 of Cups is a card of family happiness. It reflects the joys and completion of having your family together experiencing unity. In a tarot reading, this card indicates a happy time together as a family and fulfillment. If you haven’t yet had a stroke visit you, this card is an excellent indicator that it’s on the horizon.

On most tarot decks, the ten cups depict a happy couple embracing each other and looking at a beautiful landscape. It seems as if it is a place where they live, their estate. Full rainbow arches across the sky, representing that even though they have had difficulties in the past, now is a new bright time ahead. The two children are accompanying them and cheerfully playing close to them. The presence of children on the card imagery is always an excellent sign for motherhood.

Being a ten, it also represents completion and the beginning of a new cycle. Perhaps that new cycle will be parenthood.

Tarot cards that hint positive signs to pregnancy

I have included cards that don’t directly indicate or point to pregnancy on this additional list, but they have positive clues to tell that it is possible.

The rest of the Aces

All aces are the beginning of something new. They are about focus and completion, and they alter the present into something new. They call us to go for the things we desire. If pregnancy is on the table of issues in the reading, all of the aces can point to pregnancy. However, if I was to choose one of them as the best omen for pregnancy, it will be an easy choice – The Ace of Cups, which we already covered in the previous chapter.

Page Of Cups and other pages

This card is often associated with creative ideas, opportunities, and romantic interests. As it is also one of the four pages, it is a card of naivety and creation. Pages are also often known as the tarot pack’s messengers. Therefore, the page of cups is the messenger of all things romantic and relationship related. The message he might deliver could be about pregnancy.

I consider all pages somewhat good omens for pregnancy. They are the children of the 16 court cards. Especially if they show up in tarot spread surrounded by other cards that could indicate romance or relationships, it starts to look like a child is on the horizon. You can interpret the page of cups and pentacles as baby girls and the swords and wands as baby boys.

The Fool

The Fool is the ultimate card for naivety, new beginnings, and foolishness. The Fool takes on new endeavors with an open heart, but he can sometimes be too reckless and carefree.

If the Fool shows up in a tarot reading and the topics revolve around love and relationship, the Fool is an indicator of impulsive and carefree romance. So get ready for a romantic ride! But when you are enjoying it, be aware and take precautions when it comes to sex, if you don’t wish to find yourself pregnant.

The Star

The Star is a very positive card, and in general, it is about being open and confident in the future. Being the 17th card of the Major Arcana, it collects the dust that the collapsing Tower (16) left behind. It represents hope, inspiration, and renewal.

Although the Star is not a direct signal of pregnancy, it is a positive omen if the reading is about it. It brings a burst of positivity and the feeling of freedom into your life. You will feel balanced and ready for new opportunities.

If you have been in a relationship for a longer time, the Star indicates that the relationship will deepen. One of the obvious ways to deepen a relationship is to welcome new life into the world.

All queens

All queens are motherly figures. They are warm and full of love and care. Although they are not directly announcing pregnancy for your future, they will respond with positivity if you ask them about it.

Unexpected and unplanned pregnancy tarot cards

Although nowadays it seems that everybody plans their lives down to the minute, there are still occasions when pregnancy catches people by surprise. Therefore I wanted to present one card that I feel gives me the vibes that something unexpected might happen.

The Moon

The Moon has always been and remains to be a significant part of storytelling and mysticism for us humans. Many of our behaviors and even aspects of our health have been tied to the moon’s cycles. The connection between women’s menstrual cycle and the lunar cycle has been in that mix as well. I have read speculations about this from women’s magazines and chatted about it friends as well.

Whether there is any scientific evidence to support those connections, the moon affects the liquid balances that we experience on planet earth. High and low tide interchange every six hours or so. Us humans are up to 60 % of water, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it affects our bodies at some microscopical level as well.

In the Tarot, the Moon is about the possibility of not seeing what you are getting. It is a card of illusion, and it calls you to trust your intuition. Some readers also tie it to the menstrual cycle’s irregularities, which could mean an unexpected pregnancy.

How to ask the Tarot about pregnancy?

When you are consulting the Tarot, you should always use open-ended questions to get the best benefits. Open questions allow you to gain insight and perspective from the cards rather than just yer or no answers.

If you have a yes and no question in your mind, you can try to rephrase it to an open format. For example, if you want to know, will you become pregnant this year? You can try opening that by what kind of prospects for pregnancy do I have this year?

Some example questions you could ask:

  • What type of personality will my baby have?
  • How are we going to do as parents with my partner?
  • How are my experiences going to be in pregnancy?
  • How am I going to be a mother?

I hope you enjoyed and found this article useful. Please share your comments below. I would love to hear what kind of signs you look for, and if there are cards you would include in the list.

Happy readings to everyone!
