Tarot card reading can be extremely powerful in adding shades and layers into the story of your life. And asking yes or no questions from tarot is the easiest way to make tarot part of your daily life.
For a beginner, Yes or No Tarot card reading is the best way to start learning tarot reading as it mainly focuses on answering the questions in three simple ways – yes, no or maybe.
It’s literally as easy as pulling a card and asking a question. Well, maybe not entirely. But as soon as you have finished reading this yes and no tarot guide, you will be all set to get yourself a tarot deck and start asking questions.
Before you start Yes or No Tarot card reading
There are certain things that you need to keep in mind before you start reading yes or no tarot. Let’s take a look at them.
When to use the yes or no tarot card reading?
When making any decision in your life, yes or no tarot card reading can be quite helpful for you. For instance, you may like to consult with the cards when you are in any dilemma. It can be anything related to your love life, relationships and professional life.
Sometimes people can also use yes or no tarot card reading to know what an outcome can be for any given situation that is coming up. It can be related to – whether or not you will receive any promotion or it can be about whether or not you should accept an offer.
But one thing that you need to know is that a tarot card cannot represent what is in your free will. When you are reading the tarot card, you have to keep in mind that the answers are more of an indication of any favorable or not so favorable outcome. They present you scenarios of the future, which will then help you interpret whether they are worth chasing for or not.
Last thing to note, is that some more experienced Tarot card readers might find yes and no card reading as reductive because of their stripped down nature. As I mentioned tarot is a powerful tool to analyze your daily dilemmas and give you guidance, but one might argue that asking one question and getting the answer in just “yes” or “no” can limit that power.
How to form a question in yes or no tarot?
Whenever you are reading yes or no tarot cards, you need to design your questions in such a manner that the answers can be in yes, no or maybe. For example, if you want to know about your relationship or love life, you have to be very specific. The question can be: “will I meet the love of my life this year?” or “does my partner love me?”
Tips for designing your question
- Focus is important: You must focus your question to a singular subject so that when you receive the answer which feels relevant and specific. For example, “Will my life be good?”’ is quite broad. Instead of that, you can ask “Will I get a new job this year?” This question can have a specific answer and a relevant one too.
- Don’t ask two questions at a time: Make sure to ask one question at a time. Avoid asking two questions in one sentence. For example, “Will I get a promotion this year or should I change my company?” has two questions in one. In this case if you pull up a “yes” card, you will not know which of these two questions has the answer “yes”.
- Make your question neutral: Make sure that you are framing your question in a much more neutral ground. If your question is overly positive or overly negative, then the interpretation can be biased. The question ”Does my boss hate me?” can produce biased answers. Instead of that, your question can be “Am I going to get a promotion from my boss”.
Does the reversal card matter?
This is one of the most debatable questions related to tarot card reading and there are various philosophies with different perspectives regarding this. If you want to read more about this, I suggest you check this article I wrote about inverted cards.
When you are reading yes or no tarot cards, generally, there is no need to consider if the tarot card is reversed or upright. You can simply turn any card that is in the reversed position in the correct way for checking the answer about the question.
The Significator Card
The “Significator” is a card that you can choose for representing what you are looking for in the tarot card reading. This is an optional step but you can use it to ground the topic of your questions.
For example: Pulling any one of the Cups would mean the topic should revolve around questions related to love and relationships. For questions related to professional work like new investment or work, the Significator would be any of the Pentacles.

Now that you have your deck ready, you might be thinking: “how can you determine whether the cards are a yes, no or maybe’.”

“Yes” Tarot Cards
“No” Tarot Cards
“Maybe” Cards
After your tarot card reading
One of the best ways to have a significant impact on your life is by deflecting on your tarot card reading and journaling or discussing it with a trusted friend. These two methods can also help you in identifying if you have any blind spot in your tarot card reading and interpretation. This can actually help you in refining all the questions that you are asking about the issue to improve the outcome.
Can I pull a second card in yes or no tarot reading?
You can be easily tempted to pull the next tarot card to get more information. But you have to be very careful as this temptation can end up using the entire deck of cards for one question.
But when you choose to pull the next card, the second card can provide some clarity to the previous card with the answer “maybe”.
You have to think of the second card as a way to get some additional information so that you can gain more knowledge for resolving the question.
